Au revior Montreal — Montreal, Canada

Montreal, Canada

Hugh day today, our last in Montreal. We are enjoying
this city so much we want to make the most of our final day. Talked the boys
into making the climb up to the top of Mont Royal,
which rises just behind our diggings. Beautiful walking
tracks and stairs up to the chalet through fall trees. Great views of the city
from here. The sun was shining and lots of people about because of the public
holiday (Thanksgivng).

Rejean, our landlord told us we
must take in Swartz’s for the delectable Montreal
smoked meat, another culinary tradition. So we headed down Saint
Laurent, part of the Latin Quarter
with eatery after eatery. Joined yet another line-up, much like the one at Le
Banquise yesterday. Didn’t take long to get in (they move them on fast here!)
and hoped it was worth the wait. Turns out to be corned silverside with pickles
on rye! Nice, but wouldn’t line-up for it again.

All too soon it was time to
collect our bags from the apartment and head to Gare Central for our train to Toronto. John had a small
scare when he caught sight of himself in a store window, until he realised it
was the gravity of walking downhill that made his stomach stick out so much.
Thank goodness! For a minute there he thought he might be putting weight on!

Train ride was a little on the
rough side and I was just about ready to put the driver’s horn where he
couldn’t find it, when we arrived in Toronto.
Found a cabbie no worries and on to Four Points Shearton for two night.
Another well planned set of connections worked to perfection! Everyone is
getting a little nervous about when the first stuff is going to happen. But we
are putting our faith in Iris’ blessed rosary beads, so all will be well!
